Therapy for Personal Growth
You don’t want to miss out on life and the joy it brings because of your fears. Whether, it is the fear of rejection, fear of disappointment, or the fear of failure that is holding you back, you want to find your courage and strength to pursue your dreams.
You want to embrace who you are, with all the ups and downs, so that you can become the best version of yourself.
When things change inside you, things change around you. As you grow as a person, the relationships around you become more real and fulfilling.
Therapy is a personal time for you to work on having a better relationship with yourself, with your feelings, and with your ideal life. It is about giving yourself permission to feel your feelings, giving yourself the break you need to pause and catch your breath, and giving yourself permission to put you and your need first.
Every time we fly, we hear flight attendants sharing some variation of the Oxygen Mask Rule: “Should the cabin lose pressure, oxygen masks will drop from the overhead area. Please place the mask over your own mouth and nose before assisting others.” In the case of an emergency, in order to help others, you must first take care of yourself.
Attending therapy for your own personal growth is similar to this flight rule!
Therapy for your personal growth will help you redefine your values so that you experience your relationship with others at its fullest capacity. You can let go of your fear of rejection or fear of commitment by being honest, open, and vulnerable.
When you seek support for your Personal Growth:
- You will live your life fully by being more in the present.
- You will form a deep connection with yourself and others.
- You will transform self-judgment into self-compassion.
- You will know that you are enough and worthy.
- You will have the strength and confidence to set healthy boundaries with others without feeling guilty or second-guessing yourself.
- You will have the clarity on your passion and purpose in life.
The Personal Growth Therapy Process
For therapy to be effective, it requires you to be curious about yourself. Having the openness and flexibility to look inward, therapy requires you to be both vulnerable and accountable.
In therapy, we will reflect on your past experiences because the past provides information about the present. The goal of therapy is to understand what you’ve been through and to find solutions for what you’re still going through. When you get control of your thoughts and feelings, you will have clarity of how your past is shaping your present. You will show up more openly and authentically to life.
Another key component of therapy is to understand how we view ourselves. Most people struggle with self-criticism and self-judgment. The goal of therapy is to help you understand how you come to develop the self-critical voice by examining the implicit or explicit messages you have been exposed to. Through self-reflection, you will gain tools to replace the self-critical inner voice with self-accepting and compassionate one.
While you will make new discoveries and gain deep insight into who you are and your life story, we will also work collaboratively to transform this insight into action. The insight gained during a therapy session will be ineffective if it stays within the therapy room. Once you take this insight and apply it to your life, you will experience the fruits of your hard work.
Here’s what to expect:
The therapy process starts with a Free 20-minute consultation. You will have the opportunity to elaborate on your current experiences that you wish to address in therapy. You will also learn more about my approach to therapy and cost.
During the first 2 to 3 sessions, we will have the intake process where we gather all the information we need to create a strong and accurate plan for you. The comprehensive intake evaluation will help us uncover the underlying factors that get in the way from you being your best version. We will also explore other components that may influence the treatment outcome. This process is necessary to tailor a successful treatment plan for your individual needs.
On-going sessions are designed to deepen your relationship with yourself and others. The goal of therapy is not to remove all obstacles and guarantee no future mistakes or regrets, but to give you the tools and insight that will help you maneuver what life has in store for you. You will find the peace and strength to go through life with all of its ups and downs and know that you can handle it. I utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), which are both evidence-based treatment for life stressors. Each of these modalities has unique qualities and focus while complimentary for an effective outcome.
The fundamental principle of CBT proposes that our thoughts affect our emotions, which affect our behaviors. You will learn to uncover underlying thoughts, attitudes and belief systems you may have that are unhealthy, negative or rigid. Once we identify these unhealthy thought patterns our goal is to find ways to challenge and reframe them. We will also explore behavioral changes to support your new way of thinking and at times use these action goals to challenge your thoughts.
MBSR offers mindfulness and body awareness techniques to help you better regulate and manage your emotions. Mindfulness will teach you ways to pause, observe and be non-judgmental of your inner experiences. By bringing awareness to the present moment you can learn ways to be more accepting and grateful.
DBT successfully combines the principles of CBT and mindfulness to teach you better ways to regulate your emotions, set healthy boundaries, have firm communication skills and tolerate stressful situations. This approach will teach you to how opposite things can co-exist, such as acceptance & change. While learning to accept things the way they are, you can still work towards changing the aspect of self that is not helping you.
